Three Reasons Food Banks Need to Quit Seed Oils & Added Sugar

Why we need to promote personal higher food standards for the homeless/food insecure; the let them eat cake generation.

Go to food banks and you’ll see refined carbohydrates coated in damaging seed oils and sugars, the large majority of what is offered to those seeking options against hunger. Ask any homeless person and they will tell you they are constantly offered shelf stable sweet grains, a recipe for diabetes, low energy and a plethora of other issues, short and long term, but offer that homeless man beef jerky and he’ll eat it right up being ecstatic it’s not sugar laced bread again.

We need to promote the access of cheeses, fruit and grains without added sugars to the homeless and at need population. Easily accessible and dense in nutrition, how much fruit goes tossed out because of blemishes? Those with even the lowest incomes could eat like once royalty, they could be given sustenance to make a better life for themselves and others.

'Personal higher food standards' is a dignity that should be passed on to all mankind, we were made to eat what was made for us to eat. Nutrition dense food is available to us in the western world and often it's more affordable than ultra processed options if you know what you’re looking for. Knowledge can be power, that’s why they label ingredients with words you can’t understand.

1. TEACH A MAN TO FISH

We feed the needy with food that only causes disease and short-term satisfaction, not only leaving them in a state of inefficiency for potential work, but also as now future patients in our medical industrial complex, which is often subsidized by everyone as a collective.

Putting a focus on the removal of seed oils within this population could see huge benefits from the individual all the way through the collective, its as simple as offering that needy person on the corner an apple or beef jerky instead of processed biscuits and cookies.

2. LOCAL FARMERS AND BAKERS TO THE RESCUE

Supplying the needy with fruits and less processed carbs means sourcing the local food surplus vs. unpurchased corporate ultra processed products.

The homeless should make connection with their neighbors, local farmers, local manufactures, local businesses and local food brands. The homeless diet is fulfilled largely by corporate entities with product that is designed to be a once in a while treat, not the subsidence for someone needing to get ahead in life.

We don't send unidentifiable faceless entities to put out our communities' fires. A local firefighter who is your neighbor comes to save the day. Who will we send to save the day when our neighbors go hungry?

3. Elevating Dignity Through Nutrition

Food is more than sustenance; it’s a reflection of dignity. Let’s take accountability in passing on this dignity to all—regardless of socioeconomic status. We all eat food.

Understanding ingredients and making informed choices empowers individuals to prioritize their health. After all, we were designed to eat what nature provides.

In conclusion, let’s transform food banks into beacons of health and hope. By rethinking our approach, we can uplift those who need, support our local communities, and honor the inherent dignity of every American. Together, we can nourish both bodies and spirit.
